The Treatment of Trachoma by Excision of the Tarsus and Tarsal Conjunctiva of the Upper Lid

چکیده
Considering the amount of disability caused by trachoma in this country it is somewhat remarkable that so little appears in the Indian Medical Gazette regarding its pathology, clinical aspects, and in particular its treatment. It is probably the most frequent cause for the rejection of otherwise desirable recruits for the Indian Army. It very often complicates other eye diseases we have to treat, and in itself it

Topical therapy of hyperendemic trachoma with rifampicin, oxytetracycline, or spiramycin eye ointments.
A double-blind stratified treatment trial was carried out on 108 patients with moderate to severe trachoma in a village in Southern Iran to assess the efficacy of topical therapy of I % rifampicin eye ointment or 1% spiramycin eye ointment in comparison with 1% oxytetracycline eye ointment. A 6-week course of treatment with the antibiotics used twice daily produced a cure rate of 67 % for rifam...
متن کاملIsolation of Chlamydia trachomatis from different areas of conjunctiva in relation to intensity of hyperendemic trachoma in school children in Southern Tunisia.
The simplified one-passage technique of culture in irradiated McCoy cells, in conjunction with certain other developments in technique, was used to isolate Chlamydia trachomatis from specimens collected from 78 children with trachoma in Douz, Southern Tunisia. The results show that C. trachomatis is not confined to the upper tarsal area of the conjunctiva in hyperendemic trachoma. The higher is...

The sensitivity of an indirect fluorescent antibody (FA) staining technique for detecting chlamydial inclusions in scrapings from the whole conjunctiva (upper tarsus, upper fornix, and lower lid) was compared with the sensitivity of culture in irradiated McCoy cells for the diagnosis of hyperendemic trachoma. In a group of 211 patients with various grades of active trachoma from the Bandar Abba...
متن کاملA trial of surgery for trichiasis of the upper lid from trachoma.
Three surgeons operated on upper eye lids of northern Omani villagers for trichiasis due to trachoma using a standardised protocol. The lids were graded as minor trichiasis, five or fewer lashes; major trichiasis, six or more lashes; and lid closure defect. Operative success was defined as no lash/eyeball contact and complete gentle lid closure. One hundred and sixty five lids with major trichi...
